Flowable Fill

Flowable fill is a modern marvel of the concrete world that has come a long way from where it began. Originally made up of water and fly ash for the longest while we now have a more refined mix that works leagues better. Currently it is comprised of fine aggregate, cement, fly ash, and water. The original problem was that it would degrade over time or washout if there were any cracks/seams. That has been helped through the years with the addition of cement. It allows complete compaction and self-leveling for very little work to finish it.

The best part of flowable fill is that you can pour it around or over utilities to bed and protect them a bit, and if you go back to dig it up it requires little effort. Thankfully through patience and perseverance of sampling different methods and mixtures we now have a more suitable solution for backfilling such as sewer trenches, road cuts, bridge abutments. With its complete compaction without equipment needed you can have a stable foundation for floor slabs, conduit bedding, or even under new pavement construction. The use of flowable fill extends way beyond the few we listed. Some of the special things you can do are filling tunnel shafts, color it for underground utilities, insulation if there’s a high air content, and to fill pipes.

As for any concrete company we all have our own mixes that we pride ourselves with. Here at Concrete Materials Company, it’s our signature on a piece of artwork that lasts a lifetime, and we are proud of it!
